3. The particle on the ring can be used to estimate the energy levels of the conjugated ring systems. Suppose we had a system with 16 conjugated electrons and a ring of radius 3.5   where each energy level could take 2 electrons (spin up and spin down).   

a) Calculate the energy in J/mol and angular momentum in units of   of an electron in the highest filled level.  

b) Calculate the transition energy in J/mol for a transition of one electron from the highest filled state to the lowest unfilled state. Convert this energy to wavelength (in pm) and frequency (in Hz).
