Club Manager - Full Time (Planet Fitness - Scarborough, ON)

Job Summary

The Club Manager will be responsible for the oversight of gym operations to ensure an exceptional "Judgement Free" member experience as well as a financially successful club. This position will be accountable for leading a team of employees in a positive, motivating manner with continuous assistance in employee training and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Recruit, hire, train and develop a high performing staff consisting of Assistant Managers, Member Service Representatives, Trainers and Custodians.
  2. Create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all gym members, prospective members and guests and ensure staff follows superior customer service guidelines.

Staff Management

  1. Use customer volume forecasts to schedule staff and ensure all shifts are covered.
  2. Ensure staff is providing exceptional customer service at all times.
  3. Lead by example and maintain consistent accountability for direct reports through active coaching, ensuring adherence to PF's values and goals.
  4. Administration and processing of all weekly/bi-weekly employee payroll.
  5. Resolve employee issues or concerns.
  6. Manage progressive discipline and termination as needed.
  7. Lead by example with involvement in all front desk related activities.
  8. Ensure that all guests feel welcome.
  9. Check members into the system, tour and sign up new members, log amenities and communicate updates or events to members and guests.
  10. Facilitate all member requests and help to resolve any member issues and questions.
  11. Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of the facility.
  12. Ensure the front desk area and lobby are clean and orderly, including mopping up spills, trash removal, cleaning windows and mirrors and re-racking weights.
  13. Ensure safety of employees, members and club property by determining when equipment or facilities are in need of repair and communicating to the Facilities Maintenance team in a timely manner.
  14. Communicate all PF marketing promotions to staff members and ensure a sufficient number of staff are scheduled to work during projected high volume periods.
  15. Authorize expenditures and refunds. Make daily bank deposits.
  16. Prepare all HR related forms and send to Corporate HR and Payroll Team.
  17. Track statistics and reports (weekly, monthly, annually).
  18. Provide backup support for any employee who is absent.

Physical Demands

  1. Continual standing and walking during shift.
  2. Continual talking in person or on the phone during shift.
  3. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  4. Will occasionally encounter toxic chemicals during shift.

  • Inspecting the floors, surfaces and waste baskets in the desk area and lobby to make sure everything is clean and gives a good first impression.

  • If there are weights lying on the floor that are not being used by a gym member, putting them back on the racks.

  • Walking throughout the gym to inspect it and make sure everything is clean and the equipment is in proper working order. Do this 2-3 times per shift.
  • Telling all the gym staff to let you know if they see any equipment that is not working properly or needs repair.
  • Marking sure to touch base with the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor everyday so that you can report any issues without delay.
