Question

Client with sickle cell anemia seen in emergency department with reports of chest and ack pain. Acute chest syndrome suspected. While in the ED the client was observed to have a moderate productive cough. Lung sounds diminished bilaterally with coarse crackles to lower left lobe on auscultation. Chest x-ray was performed and revealed consolidation to left lung. Client diagnosed with community acquired pneumonia and admitted to the medical unit. Client continues to complain of back and chest pain, especially with exertion. Moderate productive cough continues. Client with desaturation over past hour. Place on oxygen via nasal cannula at 2 LPM. Client also becoming more tachycardia and reporting increased shortness of breath. Client is afebrile. Lab pending. Provider notified.
