I agree with thDefibrillatione notion that effective communication skills are of major importance to the entirety of nursing experience. Ethical and moral dilemmas can be solved with clear and timely communication between a nurse and the appropriate authority. Collaboration to work through an ethical/moral dilemma can also be beneficial for removing the stress of conflicting values and orders. I am also in agreement with the importance of self-reflection and continuous learning. A professional career as a nurse can only be built if we continuously improve ourselves and internalize the beneficial lessons we encounter. I made the same claim that Autonomy is the ethical principle involved in this case study. Autonomy dictates the right of the patient to decide the treatment options best for themselves. If the nurse were to proceed with the force-feeding of the patient, they would be violating his Autonomy. The nurse's ethical respect for Autonomy conflicts with their orders from higher authorities.
