Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for students to observe and assess young children's expressive and receptive verbal, non-verbal language using knowledge of metalanguage to analyse children's varied communication skills and to plan strategies to support learning.

Description: You will select two (2) video clips from the set of clips posted and analyse them in terms of the children's development of verbal and non-verbal communication. Your analysis will take the form of a report format using the three prescribed sub-headings (listed below). Carefully consider your readings, the prescribed text , recommended readings, and journal articles you have sourced. Your analysis of the two (2) clips will include a detailed analysis of communication abilities under these subheadings:

1. Verbal communication

2. Non-verbal communication

3. Learning Activity Choosing one child (whose communicative abilities you have analysed), plan a learning activity in and detail 'where to from here', including strategies designed to facilitate his/her developing communication and language abilities within the early childhood setting.
