Thermal cycles.

a. Draw out a generic reversible Carnot cycle graph of pressure vs volume for an ideal gas.

i. Label the cycle vertices A-D with temperature, pressure and entropy (e.g., TA, PA, SAfor the first point, and TB, PB, SB for the second point, etc.).

ii. Label which steps are isothermal and which are adiabatic.

iii. Label the cooling and heating steps.

iv. Indicate which of the temperatures, pressures, or entropies are the same.

v. Graphically indicate the work done by the system and the sign of the work.

vi. Draw the corresponding temperature vs entropy graph. Label the vertices and stepsin the same way. Graphically indicate the heat transferred to the system and thesign of the heat.

b. Do the same for a reversible Diesel cycle. Note you can omit the air injection step atconstant pressure (see lecture notes for diagram of Diesel cycle).
