A representative from a Toronto company called Job Success contacted Ivan by email and invited him to attend an "interview." Before attending, Ivan asked for more details, including whether the meeting was for a specific job. However, the representative said the information was not available but that further details would be provided in person. During the meeting, the Job Success representative asked Ivan detailed questions about his background and professional experiences, including his career aspirations. After 45 minutes, the representative began listing the advantages of working with Job Success, which he finally acknowledged was a company that helped job seekers market themselves to prospective employers. At this point, Ivan realized he had been misled concerning the reasons why his information was being collected. Ivan filed a complaint with the privacy commissioner under PIPEDA.
