The schisms that are prevalent in modern social work are well-illustrated by the divide between social settlements and charitable organizations. Gutierrez (2018), examines the establishment of charitable resources that were designed to conduct in-home evaluations of individuals' eligibility for services and provide aid in a manner that would not foster reliance on relief.The purpose of these meetings was to assess an individual's eligibility for services and to offer assistance. According to Gutierrez (2018), the social settlement movement adopted a unique approach to the implementation of social work. The aforementioned approach involved the formulation of community-oriented methodologies to address socioeconomic conditions and the recognition of community constituents as residents, rather than beneficiaries of charitable giving.
