Purpose of this assignment:Become familiar with basic elements of this handbook including:
• Using rapid household surveys for local level decision making
• Framing evaluation questions to facilitate measurement
• Selecting indicators, target populations, and geographic scope
• Taking into consideration budget and time constraints
All these topics will be expanded on during the classes, so this assignment is just an introduction.
1. Read: pages 5-8 (Section I - Introduction and General Principles)
a. Describe at least two characteristics that distinguish Rapid Household Surveys from National Surveys
b. For program managers working at the district level, describe two limiting factors of using national surveys for planning work in a specific district
c. Describe at least one limiting factor mentioned in the text about using service statistics for management at the district level
2. Read: pages 13-18 (Section I - Introduction and General Principles) p. 13-18
a. List the 6 key questions that should be answered when preparing for a survey
b. The target population to be interviewed for a survey might be different from the population that is the focus of interventions, give an example.
