Question 1

Jeremy is an HR executive at a small medical technology firm. He has recently been asked by his manager to craft a proposal for a new performance appraisal system, to be implemented in the New Year. Jeremy believes this project represents a good opportunity, not only to better manage performance in the organisation but also to validate several new assessments he has been developing. Jeremy is presently conducting research in order to 1dentify the best type of performance rating system to propose.

  1. Distinguish between absolute and relative rating methods, describing at least one advantage or disadvantage of each.
  2. Analyse three (3) different types of absolute rating scales and recommend one (1) for Jeremy to implement. Provide a justification for your recommendation

Angeline, one of Jeremy's colleagues, has expressed concerns about the implementation
of a rating system. She believes that rating is rarely impartial, and that resulting scores
are often biased.
