Research Project Assignment -

Aim of the Module - This module will enable students to:

  • Further develop critical thinking, understanding and application of research methodologies and techniques.
  • Undertake extended, independent research and communicate the results of the research in an output appropriate to the course of study and intended audiences.
  • Critically analyse and evaluate the findings of the research to contribute to knowledge/practice in the hospitality/tourism field as.

Learning Outcomes of the Module - On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Plan, design and conduct an extended, independent research project.

2. Critically review available literature, research and knowledge to create a clear academic context for the project.

3. Critically apply relevant theories, concepts and debates in the analysis of the findings of the research.

4. Synthesise information to effectively communicate the outcomes of the research project in a format appropriate to the intended audience.

5. Critically reflect on the implementation and relevance of management theory in an industry context.

Topic - EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION AS A SUCCESS FACTOR IN AN HOSPITALITY ORGANISATION

Assessment 1 - Final Project

The Final Project is a substantial piece of academic writing where you undertake individual research through the application of appropriate research methods to demonstrate originality and creativity in conducting and applying independent research.

The output type of the Final Project can be either:

  • A Dissertation
  • An Applied Business Project

Regardless of the output type, your Final Project must adhere to the following characteristics:

  • The topic under investigation must be relevant to your program of study; i.e. International Hospitality Business Management.
  • The topic under investigation should interest you; this would keep you highly motivated throughout the development process of your Final Project.
  • It should not be merely a collection of information about the topic under investigation; it should demonstrate your critical analytical skills in your effort to examine and discuss the topic and your skills in applying your knowledge and understanding.
  • It should include a primary data collection undertaken by you.

Dissertation -

A dissertation is significant piece of academic writing where you have an opportunity to demonstrate and apply your critical, analytical, and investigative skills in carrying out an independent research. A dissertation is to include a critical literature review based on academic books, journal articles and relevant secondary sources. In your dissertation, you are also required to conduct your own independent primary research.

Applied Business Project -

The Applied Business Project is equal in weight to a dissertation but has a different focus. In this format, you identify a business challenge, business concept, or a business opportunity within an international hospitality context or organization and then apply theories from one or more disciplines (such as strategy, human resource management, sustainable development...etc.) in the planning, feasibility assessment, decision making, evaluation and development of appropriate policies and strategies in businesses within the context of international hospitality. The Applied Business Project needs to link to the academic literature of the underlying disciplinary domains to present academically sound discussions, justifications and recommendations.

Assessment 2 - Reflective Report

Critical reflection is a key skill in your program and the Reflective Report is an opportunity to demonstrate this. In the reflective report you are expected to reflect on a chosen topic related to your course of study which will be assigned to you when you join the course. Appendix F gives further details on the needed elements in assessment 2.

Please go through Both the attachments and also the research proposal which I attached so that u can get to know what to do for my dissertation and I need to have the weekly progress. for instance if u complete introduction just send me so that I can ask my supervisor for any changes after that we can proceed to other chapter like wise I need every chapter weekly. and for structure and presentation of dissertation please go through appendix D for cw1 (12,000 words) and for cw2 go through appendixF (3000 words). Word Count - CW1 Final Project 12,000 words and CW2 Reflective Report 3,000 words. The word count is exclusive of the Abstract, Acknowledgements, Table of Contents, List of Tables, List of Figures, References and Appendices. Direct quotations, citations, self-produced tables, table/figure captions and headings count towards the word count. Font and Section Divisions: Font: Arial, Headings: Chapter headings should start on a new page, be in Title case, bold 16-point, center-aligned, and proceeded by the sequence number. Sub-section Headings: should be in sentence case, bold, italic, 12-point, left-aligned, and proceeded by the continuing sequence number. Remaining text: regular, 12-point and left-aligned. No other subdivisions should be used.

Marking Process - All assessments are first marked by supervisors. A sample of the assessments is then selected by the Module Co-ordinator to be second (or blind) marked by an independent marker. The final awarded mark is the result of an agreement between both markers. The awarded mark will be released on CampusMoodle along with the marking grid with comments from both markers. All marks remain provisional until the RGU assessment board approves and confirms the marks. Penalties - The following penalties apply to CW1 and CW2: There is a penalty for deviating substantially (+/- 10%) from the word limit. The penalty is a deduction of up to 10 grade points from the final grade. There is a penalty for poor spelling and grammar. The penalty is a deduction of up to 10 grade points from the final grade.
