Fever
Kasey, an 18-month-old female, is brought to the Ambulatory Health Center by her mother, who is very upset. She reports that Kasey has a cold for 2 days. Mom states, "Kasey seems sicker today". Her appetite has decreased since yesterday and she has had a fever of 102.5 since last night. I gave her Tylenol which helped decrease her fever. This morning about 8 A.M. Kasey felt warm. As I was preparing to take her temperature, I noticed that her eyes rolled back, and she was shaking. This lasted for 5 minutes. I became very frightened and came to the Health Center immediately" Upon personation to the clinic, Kasey's temperature is now 103 F. Her mother also reports that she has had only 1 ounce of juice since last night and doesn't have tears when she cries. "She barely wet 4 diapers in the last 24 hours". Kasey's mother is very concerned and asks the NP, "will Kasey have seizures since her father is epileptic. Compose the appropriate PE for this case and include in presentation.
