We are thinking about the bodies and minds of 0-2 year-olds in a cultural context.

For this discussion post I would like you to do three things:

1) consider the influence of culture on early development,

2) consider how the sensorimotor stage is experienced across cultures and

3) reflect on how how much cognitive development may be embedded in a context of a particular time and place or may be universal.

The film, Babies, illustrated both differences and similarities between babies in diverse cultures. From the examples in the film, name one difference in the babies' experiences that relates to cultural differences. Share that example in your discussion post.

Then, consider cognitive development generally. According to Market Research Futures. The global baby toy market is estimated to reach 7.63 billion by the end of 2024. Thinking about the specific attributes of this age, including Piaget's model of cognitive development, what kinds of objects might attract a child in who is under two years old? Which things are likely to make the biggest developmental differences for children in this age range? How well can those essential things be provided in different cultures?
