Case Study: We have seen examples of the efforts of the Caribbean community, at the governmental level, to develop a collaborative approach in the fight against diseases, creating a desirable health status, and advancing the health and wellbeing of the people of the Caribbean. Ministers of member states have been instrumental in the development and implementation of a regional strategy for health, and have maintained their commitment evidence by their declarations at various summits, (the Port of Spain Declaration, the Panama Declaration, the Nassau Declaration, and others) in addition to policies that drive regional health initiatives.

We have seen countries in the Eastern Caribbean coming together in partnership, and forming the Eastern Caribbean States. Their successes are evident their combined economic stability and the strength of the EC dollar, their ability to effectively use economy of scale in major procurements for their health sector, and they played a major role in the procurement of pharmaceuticals in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean.
