Dr. Barnes determines it is appropriate for Trevor to undergo a screening colonoscopy. Two weeks later Dr. Barnes completes a screening colonoscopy. During the screening colonoscopy, CPT 45378, the doctor performs a removal of 2 small colon polyps in the sigmoid colon using hot biopsy forceps, CPT 45384. Would it be appropriate to code 45378 with a 59 modifier along with 45384? Explain why or why not using facts from the NCCI manual to support your answer.
