Quantitative Narrative Example

Title: Survey Instrument for Assessing Leadership Styles and their Impact on Employee Performance and Satisfaction.

Purpose: This survey aims to evaluate employee perceptions of transformational and servant leadership styles within their organization and assess the impact on their performance and satisfaction. The survey will also analyze how these leadership styles influence client satisfaction.

Population: The survey will be distributed to a sample population of 30-50 employees across different departments within organizations known for implementing transformational or servant leadership.

Instrument Development:

Source: Adapted from the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) by Kouzes & Posner (2017) for transformational leadership and the Servant Leadership Questionnaire (SLQ) by Barbuto & Wheeler (2006) for servant leadership.

Scoring: Both leadership styles will be evaluated through a Likert scale ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree) to capture the nuanced employee perceptions.

Transformational Leadership:

  • "My leader articulates a compelling vision of the future."
  • "My leader encourages me to innovate and challenge the status quo."

Servant Leadership: 3. "My leader prioritizes my professional growth and development." 4. "My leader actively listens to my concerns and feedback."

Employee Performance: 5. "I consistently meet or exceed performance goals set by my leader." 6. "I feel motivated to perform at my best under my current leadership."

Employee Satisfaction: 7. "Overall, I am satisfied with my job and the work environment provided by my leader." 8. "I feel valued and appreciated at my workplace."

Client Satisfaction (optional if employee data is primary): 9. "Our clients frequently express satisfaction with the services we provide." 10. "Client feedback has improved as a direct result of our leadership practices."

Data Analysis: Utilize statistical methods such as correlation analysis and multiple regression to determine the relationship between leadership styles and outcomes related to employee performance, satisfaction, and client satisfaction.

Revision and Updates:

Initial pilot testing revealed that the questions related to job satisfaction needed rephrasing for clarity, leading to adjustments in items 7 and 8 for better understanding.
