Writing a Literature Review

This is a link to a Curtin Learning Support Website which has some helpful information about writing literature reviews. If you do a web search you will also find similar guides from other universities.

For a 1750 word literature review, I would expect that you would need to use a minimum of between 8-12 references from credible sources. Approximately half should be from peer reviewed journal articles. You are also able to use government reports, online encyclopaedias, text books, etc. Do NOT use Wikipedia or websites by interest groups that have a particular bias. A well written website e.g. from Government Departments will usually have references that you can follow up to get your information first hand. Also do not rely on secondary sources or over-rely on direct quotes (1 or 2 in a 1800 word literature review is plenty). If you overuse direct quotes or unparaphrased chunks of information from an external source, you may be cited for plagiarism as it is not a reflection of your work.
