20-year-old Caucasian female who is a college student. Lately she has been complaining of being tired, feeling fatigued in the afternoon and being cold. She is finding herself chewing on the ice in her cold drinks. She states she has no time for a good diet or exercise. She is pale and has some shortness of breath on occasion.
What are your initial thoughts about the patient?
What tests do you expect the provider to order? What will the reason be?
Her CBC comes back as a hemoglobin of 10.8, hematocrit of 34%, MCV of 74, ferritin level of 20, B12 level of 300 n/dL
