Question: Company XYZ faced a number of challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the main challenges they had to confront was to how to downsize its operations to minimize the impact of the losses experience. Most affected would be the employees, some would be temporarily laid off and some terminated through redundancy. This was likely to have a profound effect on those who remained behind and those who were to be released.

The Directors of the company have approached you as the HR department and asked you to prepare counselling program that could be used to prepare the employees of the company for these new changes. Develop this program clearly indicating which activities will be undertaken and justify why, bearing in mind, there are 3 types of employees affected:

Those to be laid off - with possibility to return as and when the business picks up

Those to be declared redundant and terminated

Those who will be retained
