The pancreas is a dual function organ that is part of the digestive and endocrine system. Located posterior to the stomach, the pancreas produces digestive enzymes and hormones to regulate glucose levels (Falkner et al., 2022). When the pancreas becomes inflamed it is called pancreatitis affecting the body in many ways. Pancreatitis can be acute or chronic resulting from activated enzymes within the pancreas causing inflammation and potential damage in chronic conditions (Szatmary et al., 2022). Factors causing the inflammation include excessive use of alcohol, medications, elevated levels of calcium and fats (Szatmary et al., 2022). Acute episodes of pancreatitis are sudden and usually will resolve is a few days with treatment however chronic conditions can worsen and lead to pancreatic damage (Szatmary et al., 2022). Clinical manifestations of pancreatitis can be severe, constant abdominal pain either epigastric or midepigastric regions, tenderness in abdomen, elevated heart rate, nausea and vomiting (Szatmary et al., 2022). For a 35-year-old working female pancreatitis might occur because of gallstones, alcohol consumption or prescribed medications.
