Therapeutic communication is an integral component in any patient-provider relationship. The patient-provider relationships we establish as advanced practice nurse providers are a bit different than those we have established as a bedside RN. There are ethical considerations as we establish these relationships and we walk a tight line with truth verses false hope that we must always be aware of. There is not really mandated by law provision to give hope to their patients, but it can be an ethical obligation.
