1. One thing I find appealing about haggling, of course, is that it can lead you, as a customer, to walking out of a store paying a lower price for an item than its original cost. One of the examples that really stood out to me was Mr. Hargreaves experience at Best Buy. He bought a 50-inch tv that was already discounted $200, but he was able to get another $100 off due to haggling. In another example, David Achee was able to get money off for a pair of pants by saying they looked worn out, even though he did not actually think this. It is crazy to think that you can walk into a store, buy an item, and pay less for it by basically asking for a different price. I also like haggling because there are a lot of times when you can find something cheaper online or at a different store but want to get it at a certain store or from a certain brand, so if you can get the brand you want, and the price you want, it is a win-win situation. You can also use the fact that you could buy the item elsewhere and threaten to do so in order to get the lower price.

2. Nierenberg's article has plenty of different good negotiation techniques that can be used in different circumstances. Out of all those techniques I have chosen Silence. I have to agree with their first sentence, in which they say that silence is powerful. The way you speak, your tone can mean a lot of things, but when someone is silent, they are just listening to you/thinking about you. Recently I had an interview, and my interviewer in one question was silent for a second. This made me think of several different factors inside my head. "When you are silent, there's something about silence that demonstrates self-control, confidence, discipline, and calm". As a shy person, I would have to agree with this statement because I feel that when I don't speak in a conversation, apart from thinking, I am expressing a variety of things to my colleagues. I also feel that by being silent and not just talking whatever, I am also delivering respect. I say this because If I just talk about whatever, I will not be able to listen to others and I will interrupt my friends/colleagues and I think that's not fair. Silence has many positives when negotiating. Some of the are; Active Listening, Reflection and contemplation, and Asserting power and control. If you are an active listener, you remain silent and attentive, this will mean that the other party can express their opinions fully. Also, you can understand their perspectives more deeply. After that, we have Reflection and contemplation. If you reflect, this will mean that you give yourself pause and also others. This creates a chance for everyone to gather their thinking and thoughts in order to come to a better conclusion.
