In this first section of the course, we have discussed the differences between science and pseudoscience as well as fantastic claims and cutting edge archaeological research on the origins of humans and the peopling of the Americas.

1. (a) Describe in your own words one concept or topic in this section that you found particularly surprising. This might be a specific pseudoarchaeological claim, a piece of archaeological evidence, a historical fact, an archaeological technique, etc. (b) Tell us what surprised you about the concept.

2. Considering your chosen concept above (and/or related ones), do you see any potential harm associated with the pseudoarchaeological ideas surrounding such topics?

Your post should be about 50-150 words and may be either a unique post (choose an interesting or provocative title to promote conversation) or a detailed response to another student''s post. To get full credit, you must adhere to the word limit, stay on topic, and be civil in your discussions.

Assignments must be typed and double-spaced with a 10 to 11 point Arial font or an 11 to 12 point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Assignments should be in a file format readable in Blackboard (.doc, .docx, or .pdf). These write-ups should be carefully written and logically presented, using complete grammatical sentences, and should be carefully proofread and spell-checked.
