When looking at habitat destruction from a utilitarian viewpoint it can be seen that human activities have a major impact on animals. When it comes to habitat destruction there are three main concerns that need to be evaluated: professional practice issues, cost considerations, and ethical issues that may conflict. Things need to be done in a legal way, there must be some moral obligation to what is being done and the cost of everything plays a big role in evaluating a project.

Many times, things that take place are for the betterment of humans and not the animals. Deforestation, for example, removes the shelter for numerous species to build houses, and get supplies for man-made materials. This is not ethical in the sense of doing what is best for humans and animals. From this, it can be acknowledged that "There are obviously important differences between humans and other animals, and these differences must give rise to some differences in the rights that each have" (278). Animals have the right to be in the environment that they have adapted to. Morally as humans, we have an obligation to make sure animals are in a habitat that best fits their needs. If they are not, then they will face pain and suffering from being in the wrong habitat.

In response to this writing, consider how perspectives might change depending on whether you were in charge of a development project as opposed to being involved in protecting public health or promoting tourism.
