Case Study 4: Mary

Mary is 55 years old female who has been recently diagnosed with young onset dementia. Mary is a current smoker. Mary has been alcohol and drug addict throughout her life. Mary lives with his brother (Ronald). Ronald is primary career for Mary.

After recent diagnosis Mary prefer to stay home. Personal care worker visit Mary at Ronald place once a week. Ronald recently expressed his concern about Mary that she is not interested in her personal care, still drinking and smoking all the times. Ronald also informed the care worker that Mary has a new boyfriend who is also known to be drug user. He come and visit Mary at her place. Mary is very happy when he is around. Money is disappearing from Mary bank account. When enquired from Mary she is not aware of any money transfer from bank account. Ronald is also worried that the new boyfriend is using Mary money. There is also new speed fines at Mary name where as she is not been driving from 4 weeks.

Ronald has also reported bruises on the Mary arms, neck and legs. Ronald believe that boyfriend is sexually abusing Mary. Ronald is quiet upset and angry about the current situation. He is aware that Mary is entitled for her own life but being career he is feeling helpless in this scenario.
