Clinical Scenario

A 48-year-old Aboriginal female patient named Gemma has just been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. From your learning, you are aware that diabetes can be associated with an increased risk of diabetic kidney disease. Although Gemma's glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and her blood pressure is within normal range, you wonder if there is any evidence to support use of blood pressure lowering medication to reduce the risk of kidney diseases, in addition to her hypoglycaemic medication.

Clinical Scenario

Adit is a young boy who had been admitted to the emergency department for a severe second degree burn to his right ankle which has blistered. You are requested to dress the burn and are faced with what to do about the large blisters, should they be punctured or not? You consult the wound care management team who suggest that the blisters should be punctured because that is what they always do.

Adit asks you why you need to puncture the blisters as he is concerned it will hurt and cause more pain. Before proceeding with the suggested wound care treatment, you opt to do some research regarding what best practice is, for wound management of blisters from a second-degree burn.
