John is 56 years old. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 years ago and managed to lose 10 kg. His diabetes is controlled with metformin. He has had hypertension diagnosed at a routine diabetic clinic appointment. John had no symptoms and was surprised to be referred to the dietitian. John lives with his wife, and two of their three adult children. He travels abroad frequently on business and does not always have as much choice as he would like over his diet. He is aware that he drinks more than is probably good for him and worries about keeping his weight under control.
