Please read the following case then answer question 1 - 3. You are the nurse director in the regional hospital that provide the health services in this region. The population of this region is 700000 with an increase of 15% in the last 2 years, the bed capacity is 200 beds and the nursing staff is 350 nurses with 60% of these nurses are expatriates. Currently, COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic has been around for one year; COVID-19 was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in late 2019, and the outbreak spread across the globe in January, 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared that COVID- 19 is a global pandemic on March, 11, 2021.
There has been significant increase in number of COVID-19 cases in your hospital. Nursing staff report indicates that nurses have been working more shifts, increased anxiety and stress among nursing staff, decreased job satisfaction, and increased number of significant conflicts with patient relatives and family due to no visitors and sitter policy at this time. Despite the presence of security, several verbal and non-verbal violence cases have been reported. Also, violence against nurses from other healthcare providers has been increased.
Question 1. Please list the strategic planning steps that needed to develop the strategic plan, what are the things that you can personally influence, who should be involved in the strategic plan?
Question 2. In examining the strategies for creating a motivating climate that could improve job satisfaction, decide what you can do to provide a more positive work environment, what measures could be taken to decrease possible turnover and improve the burnout and retention among nurses. How do you plan on handling the conflict (violence) at this time?
Question 3. Knowing that Saudi Arabia is challenged by nursing shortage which has negative impact on healthcare. However, the Saudi government has increase the number of nursing colleges and resulted in increased number of new nursing graduates, as a nurse director using your knowledge of new role identification, assimilation, and motivational theory, develop a plan to assist young nurses. What can you do to provide a climate that will motivate them and decrease job dissatisfaction?
