Pharmacology Term Project

Assignment Overview:  You will choose a specific medication or medication class and develop a comprehensive pharmacological management plan. Your plan should include considerations for medication administration, patient assessment, monitoring, and education. You will present your plan in a written report and an accompanying presentation.

Assignment Components:

1. Medication Selection:

Choose a medication or medication class relevant to your clinical practice or of particular interest to you. Examples include antibiotics, analgesics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, or medications specific to a certain specialty area (e.g., psychiatric medications, chemotherapy agents, respiratory agents).

2. Literature Review:

• Conduct a thorough literature review to gather information on the selected medication or medication class.
• Explore peer-reviewed journals, textbooks, and evidence-based practice guidelines to understand the pharmacology, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, indications, contraindications, adverse effects, and nursing considerations associated with the medication.

3. Medication Management Plan:

• Develop a medication management plan outlining how the medication will be administered, monitored, and evaluated in a clinical setting. Consider factors such as dosage, route of administration, frequency, timing, and special considerations (e.g., renal or hepatic impairment, drug interactions).
• Include a discussion on nursing assessments required before, during, and after medication administration.
• Identify potential adverse reactions, interactions,  or complications
• Outline appropriate nursing interventions to prevent them.

4. Patient Education Plan:

• Design a client education plan to ensure optimal medication adherence, safety, and understanding.
• Create educational materials such as brochures, leaflets, or digital resources that explain the purpose of the medication, potential side effects, dosing instructions, and important precautions. Include the educational materials in your presentation.
• Please remember to keep this to a  sixth grade level of education.
• Consider strategies for addressing patient concerns,
• Suggest a method for promoting medication adherence,
• Provide clients with reasons they should contact the provider; this  encouraging open communication between clients and healthcare providers.

5. Presentation:

Prepare a presentation summarizing your pharmacological management plan. Use a slide show  or other presentation software, video to create a program  that highlights key points, evidence-based practices, and practical implications for nursing practice.

Submission Guidelines:

• Submit your presentation  with a recorded presentation. Include speaker notes.
• Ensure clarity, organization, and professionalism in your written work and presentation.
• Presentation includes medication management plan, patient teaching plan and education resource (brochure, pamphlet).

Assessment Criteria: Your project will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Thoroughness and accuracy of the literature review.

2. Clarity and coherence of the medication management plan

3. patient education plan.

4. Integration of evidence-based practice  OR guidelines

5. Nursing considerations.

6. Creativity and effectiveness of the presentation.
