Assignment:
This purpose of this assignment is to:
- Apply behavior modification principles to a real-world or imagined scenario.
- Demonstrate mastery of course content through creativity and critical thinking.
- Practice integrating theoretical knowledge (e.g., reinforcement, extinction, functional assessment) into practical applications.
- Develop professional presentation skills through PowerPoint.
Tasks
1. Choose a subject: Select a celebrity or create a fictional character as the focus of your behavior modification plan. Real individuals are strictly prohibited!
2. Identify a target behavior: Clearly define one behavior that needs to be modified (e.g., a celebrity's procrastination or a character's unhealthy eating habits, anger management, alcohol and other drug addiction, violent/aggressive behavior, stealing, gambling, shopping, exercising, eating, pornography consumption, social media use, etc.).
3. Conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): Identify the antecedents, behavior, and consequences (ABCs) influencing the target behavior. Provide a rationale for why this behavior is significant to address. What is your client's issue and how will you help them modify their behavior? Describe the behavior of your client and associated symptoms. Include a description of what this behavior looks like: why it is a problem; who this problem impacts (personal, familial, social, vocational, religious, etc.), and how?
4. Develop a behavior modification plan: Specify at least four behavior modification techniques (e.g., shaping, differential reinforcement) and explain why these were chosen. Demonstrate mastery of these four topics, do not just throw in words. Describe each behavior modification technique you used in detail and describe why you chose to utilize it.
Describe how you will implement the plan, including reinforcement schedules, extinction procedures, or antecedent manipulations.
Describe your client's progress in detail.
5. Create a graph: Use fictional data to demonstrate how you will measure and track behavior changes over time (e.g., before and after intervention), detailing the baseline and progression (or lack) of your client. Include the final outcome of your client in this process. Was your plan a success? Did the behavior increase, decrease, or remain the same? How does your client behave post intervention?
Let your creative juices flow with this assignment! You may include video clips (from movie or video), images of your favorite celebrity, or create a new person. What is your client's issue and how will you help them modify their behavior?
6. Present your plan using PowerPoint: Create a visually engaging and organized PowerPoint presentation (minimum of 12 slides, including title and reference slides) that includes:
- Title Slide: Project subject and your name.
- Content Slides: Target behavior, FBA, techniques, graph, and summary.
- Creative Element: Use visuals (e.g., images, videos, or character illustrations) to enhance your presentation.
- Reference Slide: Cite sources for images, videos, or external references.
PowerPoints should be a minimum of 12 slides.
A minimum of one chart or graph is required.
Four techniques must be included from classroom materials (notes, PowerPoints, etc.)
At least three pictures, videos or other media should be included.
Let your creative juices flow. Have fun with this assignment!
