Problem-
Bombay. Costs, savings (due to reduced traffic police requirement), and estimated values of perceived benefits and disbenefits of the public for the three Proposals are given below
Proposals

3
Public benefits/ year

$46500
$750,000

$950,000
$680,000
$520,000
Traffic police operating cost saving/ year
$185,000
The planning period is 30 years. Salvage values are zero.
Determine
(a) The benefit minus cost for Proposal 1 if the interest rate 5%.
(b) The preferred (economically superior) Proposal if the interest rate is 4% and x = 28,000,000.
(c) The maximum value of x that would make Alternative 3 the preferred Alternative if the interest rate is 2%.
Additional Information-
The problem belongs to Civil Engineering and it is describe the benefit minus cost for proposals for road improvement proposals in Bombay. Three proposals are being weighed for their maximum benefits, interest rate, value and cost, etc.

A horizontal curve on a two-lane highway is designed with a 818.51ft radius, 12ft lane, superelevation 6.4%, and a 50mph design speed. Deflection angle is 90 degree.
The contractor ran out of gunite mixture and finished the deep corner of a 5-m-wide swimming pool, with a quarter circle pipe of PVC pipe, . compute the horizontal and vertical forces on the curved panel AB.
In part (a) of this question we are asked to calculate τmax. In order to do this we separate the cross section at the neutral axis and take the entire upper half (as shown in the cramster solution).
A pipe line of 1.25 m diameter has a circular gate at its end. This gate can be operated around its horizontal diameter. If the pipe is flowing full with velocity almost equal to zero, calculate the turning moment required to operate the gate
The tank is heated to a pressure of 10 bar. Assuming that Xe behaves like an ideal gas with a specific heat ration of 1.7, Calculate the amount of heat transferred during the process in Kj.
The superelevation rate is 0.084. Prepare a plot showing the ordinates required for the transition from the tangent section to the full superelevated section, assuming that the pavement width is 7.3 m wide. Make any necessary assumptions.
A plane gate of uniform thickness holds back a depth of water as shown. Find the minimum weight need to keep the gate closed. theta=30degrees L = 3m w = 2m
Ten kilograms of saturated liquid water at 5 bar is heated in a piston-cylinder assembly at constant pressure until temperature reaches 400 degrees C.
The bottom of piezometers A and B are on the same flow line and 1000 m apart. The bottom of piezometer A is at 130 m and its water level is 160 m. The bottom of piezometer B is at 100 m and the water level is 150 m. What is the hydraulic gradient ?
