Determine and document requirements for cabinetry installation
Practical Simulation Task 1 - Determine and document requirements for cabinetry installation
Objective
Conduct onsite assessments of spatial and other requirements for the installation of fitted cabinetry.
Resources Required
Learner Activity Workbook
PowerPoint Slides
Simulated Environment
AS 1100 Technical Drawing
Measuring devices (tape measure, laser measure, angle reader, ruler, etc.)
Installation site with walls, floors and services
Project brief and design documentation for two different projects
Service and appliance information
Site and workplace procedures
Site assessment worksheets
Your Task
The Assessor will provide project briefs and design documentation for two different projects. Effective planning for these activities aligns with project management and planning principles.
For each project, you must:
1. Conduct a site assessment and identify issues impacting installation arising from:
Overall site condition and access
Structure
Appliances
Services
2. Produce accurate documentation including:
Scaled plan and elevation identifying:
All site dimensions
Placement and dimensions of all features affecting manufacture and installation
Supporting site information to inform manufacture and installation
3. Identify and respond to two different site challenges:
One structural challenge
One appliance or services-related challenge
Part 1 - Project 1
Complete the following:
Review project brief and design documentation and identify site aspects to be assessed.
Arrange site access with the client according to workplace procedures.
Identify and follow WHS procedures during onsite inspections.
Determine access requirements for materials and equipment.
Identify and review other work being undertaken on site and its impact.
Assess site construction features. Site construction assessment may involve concepts related to Civil Engineering:
Examine wall and floor construction and determine implications for cabinet installation.
Identify and inspect other structural features and determine implications.
Assess appliances and services:
Review appliance installation requirements from manuals or physical inspection.
Identify compliance issues and determine appropriate actions.
Review assessment findings and determine implications for cabinetry manufacture and installation.
Prepare site plan and elevation drawings using AS 1100 drawing standards.
Prepare supporting documentation for manufacture and installation.
Submit:
Site assessment worksheet
Site plan and elevation drawings
Practical Simulation Task 2.1 Observation
Part 2 - Project 2
Repeat all of the tasks completed in Project 1 for a second project.
Submit:
Site assessment worksheet
Site plan and elevation drawings
Practical Simulation Task 2.1 Observation
Site Assessment Worksheet (for each project)
Complete the following sections:
Project
Project overview
Site access
Site works
Wall and floor assessment
Structural features
Appliances and services assessment
Findings
Site plan and elevation drawings
