Project Introduction:

North West Corner of the Cork road camps was tasked with the design and construction of The PROJECT NAME for Waterford Institute of Technology. Included in the requirements for this project are:

• The design of The W.I.T Sport Complex with reference to Building Information Modelling (BIM), design of floor slabs, columns and beams.

• Site Investigation.

• Health and Safety.

• Costings.

• Conclusions and Recommendations.

The PROJECT NAME will be purpose built for Waterford Institute of Technology. The new building will be constructed on the North West side of the campus opposite the Tourism and Leisure building. It will be built on a (.....) acre site. The new building and will rise one floorsan 3 section. The firstsection will measure. (.... .....)m2, second section = (........)m2, third section =(......) m2and level 3 = (........)m2 giving an overall floor area of 10800m2. The overall height of the new building will be (........) metres. The new development will house undergraduate and postgraduate facilities and will include state-of-the-art engineering laboratories, research facilities, workshops, computer suites, lecture rooms, canteen and a 350+ seat auditorium.

The main construction material for the new building will be steel and concrete. The new building will be a steel frame constructed using reinforced concrete floor slabs, big steel truss,steel beams and steel columns. The frame will be built on pile foundations as with other buildings on the main college site. Decisions regarding the foundations were made from the results of the site investigation. The building will have a glass façade on parts of the southern and western exposures, white brick on all other exposures excluding the eastern side of the building which will be finished with a white "K- Rend" plaster in keeping with other buildings on the campus. The building will be capped with a waterproof and insulated concrete roof. The decision to use concrete for the roof was to enable future expansion if needed.
