CDS Description
Search for an existing electronic Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tool or system related to your topic that has been published in a scientific article, evaluate the CDS system, and report on the CDS system. Describe the CDS system that you found, your evaluation, and your suggestion to better the system. The purpose of your CDS tools is to aid with diagnosis, treatment options, surveillance, and/or prevention of the condition, disorder, or event described in your project introduction.
Include the following portions:
1) Brief introduction to the specific condition or event that you chose
o Specifically describe the necessary information needed to understand your CDS tool
2) Concisely summarize the CDS system that you've found including:
o Aim of the CDS system
o Description of the CDS system
o Inclusion/exclusion criteria or specific parameters
o Which healthcare providers the CDS system assist
o Knowledge base guiding the CDS system
3) Evaluate the CDS system o Benefits of the CDS system
o Potential flaws of the CDS system
4) Suggestions to improve upon the existing CDS system
o Suggest at least 3 ways the CDS system can be improved
CDS Design Proposal
Develop a diagram that depicts the high-level design of your recommended CDS system or tool and incorporate the improvement suggestions you've made. The complete CDS design proposal will be an illustration of the final state that represents how the CDS system or tool will be integrated into the clinical workflow of the healthcare professionals involved in the process.

5) Description of the proposed CDS in terms of Who/What/Where/When/How, specifically:
a) Where: ED, hospital care unit, ICU, OR, physician office, wherever recipient of the CDS is (i.e., physical location)
b) Who: patient, nurse, pharmacist, physician, other member of care team; internal to system (i.e., who is the recipient of the CDS when the rule triggers action by the system)
c) How (delivery channel): EHR (specific module, i.e., results review, CPOE, etc.), PHR, mobile device
d) When (specific point in workflow): i.e., associated with a specific information system-based task
e) What: User interaction with rule output, including rule actions and notifications.
On a separate, single page, include item 6:
6) Diagram/illustration of the CDS system or tool embedded in the end user's workflow processes. Be sure to capture CDS tool(s) in a yellow diamond shape so that it is easily identifiable.
