Question
Select a Mesozoic vertebrate that interests you. This could be a dinosaur species, or any other vertebrate (e.g., rauisuchid archosaur, pterosaur, marine reptile, etc.). For full credit you must complete the following in detail:
1. List the animal's scientific name (Genus and species), followed by the etymology (i.e., what does the scientific name mean-such names are usually Latin, or occasionally Greek, for example Tyrannosaurus rex = "Tyrant lizard king", Velociraptor mongoliensis = "Speedy robber from Mongolia))
2. Describe the geographic locality/localities where the fossil/fossils were discovered
3. Include a description of the evolutionary relationships/phylogenetic position of your species of choice-for example, Tyrannosaurs rex, Archosauria, Saurischia, Theropoda, Coelurosauria
4. Identify the time frame for the species (e.g., T. rex, latest Cretaceous, ~68-65 million yrs ago)
5. Lastly, include a discussion of aspects of the paleobiology of the species. Ideally you will have chosen a species that is relatively well known from multiple fossils, and has been the subject of biological reconstruction/interpretation. This may include a discussion of locomotion, feeding adaptations, interpretations of unique morphological characters (e.g., spikes and plates of Stegosaurus, etc.), behaviors implied from the fossil record, etc.
