Select an multinational Organization and considering the following questions: Assignment 

  • What were organization's (note that your interest should be the specific department, outlet, location, or business unit that is the focus of your study) short- and medium-term business objectives and plans prior to the current situation?
  • How did the organization operate prior to the current situation? (e.g., in your location/unit what were the days & hours of operation; how many customers were served/day, how many and what types of workers were required to deliver the services, etc.).  Include an organization chart (for the department/location/unit) and a staffing table of the HR demand and internal HR supply immediately prior to the current situation.
  • Depending on your organization's situation, what options did the organization have available (see the relevant HR policies or provisions/clauses of the existing Collective Agreement, if unionized) to deal with a sudden human resource surplus (e.g., hiring freeze, zero-hour scheduling, layoff, redeployment, etc.) or a specific human resource HR shortage (e.g., aggressive recruitment, bonuses/incentives, overtime, etc.). REFER TO CLASS 5 MATERIAL:  BALANCING HR DEMAND & SUPPLY.
  • What changes did the organization make to its operations as a result of the pandemic (e.g., shift certain aspects of its operations to work from home, reduce operating hours, stop providing certain services, start providing certain services, temporarily close the location, etc.)? Include a staffing table of the HR demand and internal HR supply resulting from the changes to operations.
  • Discuss the imbalance between HR demand and HR supply that the organization faced REFER TO CLASS 5 MATERIAL:  BALANCING HR DEMAND & SUPPLY.
  • Identify and describe the specific options the organization implemented.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's response to the COVID-19 pandemic from an HR management perspective.
