Assignment:

1. Choose a health issue (public health problem, ex. obesity) for a selected priority population that falls under your health topic.

2. Determine which health behavior (ex. over consumption of high-calorie foods) or circumstances (ex. Lack of employer-sponsored insurance coverage among part-time workers) you are interested in addressing with your policy. Consider the level of prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary) and type of behavior (preventive, illness, sick-role).

3. Identify and describe the priority population (who is or is not affected, or who does or does not participate in the behavior) for the proposed policy changes. Consider stakeholders, affected populations, and advocacy groups.

4. Segment your priority population into a potential audience (target/intended audience). Use at least one socio-demographic factor to segment your population (ex. women of reproductive age, XX - XX years old). Discuss what factors led to the choice of this target/intended audience.

5. Review evidence (journals, articles, credible websites resources) to identify determinants across the socioecological model that influence the health behavior among your target audience. Discuss social, geographic, behavioral, economic, cultural, and environmental factors that contribute to the issue. Determine and write which determinant(s) you would like to address in your proposed policy.

6. Provide justification for the selection of your determinants from #5 through works cited in your annotated bibliography. If the annotated bibliography is not sufficient to provide justification, include additional websites and journals in your reference list. If you found the information in a journal article, use APA citation style to cite the article. Keep in mind, websites should be credible, reliable sources and end in either .gov, .edu, or .org.
