Develop 7- to 10 content slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with speaker notes (Slide count does not include cover slide and reference slide) in which you evaluate the effects of waste products and fossil fuels on the environment.

Thus you will have a MINIMUM of 8 slides. Include the following items. Be sure to print off the rubric posted in Student Materials to the right. Use the rubric to develop your Ppt.

Select two SPECIFIC waste products - One Solid waste and One hazardous waste - See listing of examples in textbook - example paper waste, food waste for solid and mercury, nuclear, etc. for hazardous.

Select two fossil fuels.

Describe the effects of your selected solid waste and hazardous waste (NOT fossil fuels) on soil and water quality. (What does it break down into, chemicals released, etc. You will have to research this part)

Discuss the methods available for the disposal of you solid waste and hazardous waste materials. You will have to research the methods of disposal.

Determine the method of waste management you would recommend for the proper disposal of EACH your selected solid and hazardous waste materials. Provide an explanation for your recommendation.

Explain how your EACH solid and EACH hazardous waste materials AND EACH fossil fuel affects BIOLOGICAL BIODIVERSITY in the environment. Provide specific examples. (For fossil fuels the mining of each as well as the use of each has an impact on biodiversity - what is that impact?)

From your evaluation of EACH fossil fuel (oil, natural gas, coal), recommend at least two alternative energy resources (wind, solar, tidal, biomass, etc.) that could replace your selected fossil fuels. Explain the advantages and disadvantages for the environment of using these alternative energy resources.
