How do you respond to this client as the counselor?

Session: This is Jim. He's been seeing you for anxiety for a few sessions now. In the last session, you gave him a homework assignment, but when he came back he told you he didn't do it, and the reasons he gave were somewhat inconsistent with each other. Jim says, "You know I didn't actually do my homework I have had so much stuff on my plate. I am so busy. But you know what I'm feeling better i don't think i really need to do the assignment."
