Case Study: Lane
Read the following case and answer the questions.
Lane is an Allied Health Assistant working at CareShore and has been in the role for 3 months.
When Lane begins working with a client, she calls them to gather the information that she requires for the client file so that the Allied Health Professionals can review the file prior to commencing the treatment program with the client.
It usually takes Lane approximately three appointments to gather all the information that is required, as she doesn't always know exactly what information she needs. Sometimes she forgets to ask particular questions and then has to follow up with the client at the next appointment to gather the information that is required.
Lane's workplace supervisor has asked her to come up with another method of gathering information that is more efficient. The supervisor also suggested to Lane that she consider different types of technology that she could use to assist her when gathering client information.
Lane feels she needs a lot of time to complete this task, as there is so much information to collect.
The workplace supervisor mentioned to Lane she was collecting too much information from the client, and some of the information isn't really required. Lane believes that whilst this information may not be relevant to the specific program, it is good to collect this information as it is interesting to her and not only might it be useful down the track, it will help her learn and develop as an allied health assistant.
It is also noted that Lane's progress notes are quite unstructured and the information that is included in the progress notes has no logical order in the way it is written.
