Compartment syndrome (CS) is a potentially disabling but treatable condition defined by an increased intramuscular pressure within the planes of a defined anatomic fascial compartment. In conditions predisposing to increased muscle volume, the inelastic quality of fas- cial tissue prevents adequate expansion to allow for increased volume, and, thus, pressure increases. Higher compartmental pressures lead to impairment of circulation and subsequent ischemia, which, if left untreated, can proceed to muscle necrosis and peripheral nerve injury.
