1. Define cognitive distortion. Choose three of them that are listed on page 100 of your text and give one example for each. Then, describe how you will identify cognitive distortions when you hear your students using them and how you will help your students to restructure their thinking.
2. Use your textbook to describe the difference between stress reduction skills (p. 112-114), stress coping skills (p. 115-117), and relaxation skills (p. 117-119). Choose one of each that you will use with your students and explain why you find those helpful.
3. Based on Sloan (2012) article, How to Manage Your Stress, define the four strategies the Mayo Clinic suggests to manage stress (Avoid, Alter, Accept, Adapt). Provide an example of how you personally use each of these strategies when faced with a stressor. Then, explain which strategy is the easiest for you to use and which is the hardest and why.
4. Describe the three phases of General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) and provide an example of how this model could present with a student in your classroom. Explain how you would use your understanding of GAS to help the student in your example.
