After 911 Americans needed to do something so many decided to donate blood. In the two months after 911 there were of 100,000 new cases of HIV. People were walking around and they had no idea they were HIV-positive until they screened when they donated blood. Inccidence went up after 911 and prevalence rates increased the following year.
