Question

In my previous job, where I worked at as an aid, we used the Debrief Checklist strategy. The Debrief Checklist strategy consists of nine parts, and they are as followed: was communication clear, were roles and responsibilities understood, was situation awareness maintained, was workload distribution and equitable, was task assistance requested or offered, were errors made and or avoided, were resources available, what went well, and what should improve (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2012). By using this type of strategy tool, our team was able to provide our patients with safe and effective care. Prior to implementing this tool, some of the staff complained of tasks not being equally distributed among the staff, and it became an issue because some staff had to work twice as hard while others did not. This caused a risk for potential patient harm and unsafe patient outcome. With this strategy, everyone also made sure there was effective communication among staff in order to avoid confusion and errors. At times staff would go home and forget to report pertinent patient data and this usually led to avoidable patient issues. With this strategy, staff does not forget to report important patient data and we had an overall better communication among coworkers. One day, if I decide to get into management, I will definitely implement this tool into the policy and make sure all the employees utilize it. This strategy was truly great.
