Learning Outcome 1: Critically evaluate and synthesise existing key data and theoretical knowledge using a wide range of research methodologies in the development of the final project.

Learning Outcome 2: Employ advanced skills in testing and experimentation of data and analysis alongside contextual debates relating to the chosen subject to develop best practice to support your final project.

Learning Outcome 3: Present a fully resolved final project; demonstrating specialist technical and practical knowledge.

Learning Outcome 4: Be self-directed in liaising with industryand peers in planning and implementing a design management project to a coherent professional level.

Learning Outcome 5: Critically evaluate and analyse various relevant specialist practices and advanced concepts; their application and impact on creating and capturing value for business.

Learning Outcome 6: Critically analyse and display expertise in testing the impact of emerging issues and activities, and propose innovative and creative solutions to these issues.

Project Brief

The Final Project in the Project Management course is the culmination of your studies. It will form a framework for the central ideas and concepts developed throughout the entire programme at Ravensbourne. Through the realisation of the advanced final project, you will demonstrate evidence of advanced conceptual and theoretical capability over an extended period of self-directed study.

To give an overview from ideation to resolution, consider all the outcomes of your work developed throughout your whole MSc course. Consider the relationship between the theoretical discourses pursued within your studies and the practical manifestation of your knowledge of Project Management.

This is an advanced project regarded as an exercise in the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data analysis, creative thinking, strategic management related directly to your subject discipline. The Final Project is divided into two separate formats:

(1) DISSERTATION
Students are expected to produce written work in the form of ONE of the following options. This will form the basis of 70% of your grade:
(a) Dissertation: Project Management Dissertation of 7,500 words +/- 10% (excluding references and appendice), including an analysis of a Project Management related research question, based on primary and secondary research.
OR
(b) Portfolio of work: Project management related portfolio of work including a final report of 7,500 words+/- 10% (excluding references and appendice), on a relevant real-world solution.
The work must be written in a clear, coherent, and academically rigorous manner. It should abide by the following general structure.
Structure for the Dissertation:
• Abstract: A summary of the research, including the research question, methodology, key findings, and conclusion.
• Introduction: Clear presentation of the research problem, objectives, and the study's significance.
• Literature Review: A critical evaluation of existing research and theories relevant to your topic.
• Methodology: Detailed description of the research design, data collection methods, and analytical approach.
• Results and Discussion: Presentation of findings, followed by an analysis and discussion in relation to your research question.
• Conclusion and Recommendations: Summary of key findings, implications, and potential directions for future research.
• References: All sources must be cited in Harvard Referencing style.
• Appendices (if applicable): Additional supporting materials such as raw data, consent forms, and ethics approval.
Declaration: Include the following declaration in your dissertation, confirming adherence to the university's academic integrity policies. The declaration must be signed and dated before submission:

(2) Week 6 - Elevator Pitch
In Week 5, you are required to deliver a concise 5 to 10-minute elevatorpitch of your research proposal to your peers and supervisors. This activity is designed to help you articulate your research idea clearly and succinctly, receive constructive feedback, and refine your approach for the next phase of your dissertation.
What to Cover in Your Pitch:
1. Introduction and Context:
o Briefly introduce your research topic and provide context.
o Highlight the problem or gap in knowledge your research aims to address.
2. Research Question(s) and Objectives:
o Clearly state your main research question(s).
o Outline 2-3 key objectives your research aims to achieve.
3. Rationale and Relevance:
o Explain the importance of your research.
o Justify why this topic is significant to your field of study or industry.
4. Proposed Methodology:
o Briefly outline your chosen research philosophy (e.g., subjectivism, pragmatism).
o State whether your study will use quantitative (survey) or qualitative (interviews) methods.
o Provide details about your target sample size (e.g., 50-80 survey responses or 5-8 interviewees).
Presentation Guidelines:
• Use simple, clear language to convey your ideas effectively.
• Aim for a professional yet engaging tone to capture your audience's interest.
Feedback and Evaluation:
Supervisors and peers will provide constructive feedback on the clarity, feasibility, and focus of your proposal. This feedback will help you refine your research design and methodology for subsequent stages of your dissertation.

(3) VIVA
For the MSc Project Management course, students are required to attend a 10 to 15-minute viva as part of the assessment of their final project, whether it is a dissertation or portfolio project. This will form the basis of 30% of your grade.
Theviva is an opportunity to showcase your understanding of key concepts, defend your research, and demonstrate how your work connects with the broader field of Project Management in front of the examining panel. The viva is in form of a Q&A session where you will respond to queries from your examiners. This is your chance to clarify any points, defend your choices, and demonstrate deeper insights into your work. Details on individual time slots will be provided during the semester.

DROP IN WORKSHOPS
To aid students in exploring innovative research approaches, drop-in workshops may be scheduled on a weekly basis. The sessions will not replace formal supervision, but will supplement supervision by providing:
• Focused guidance on specific questions or minor issues that may arise between supervision sessions.
• Receiving brief feedback on small sections of work (e.g. paragraph or a key idea) to help keep your progress on track.
• Working independently in an informal environment, with quick advice available if needed.
Students are encouraged to attend these drop-ins to gain quick feedback and integrate creative approaches into their dissertation projects in between supervision sessions.Workshops dates and contents will be announced later in the semester.
