Question

A nurse's goal of educating patients is to promote health by creating good habits and prevent disease. The SCDNT is not only useful to assess patients, but also helpful for other health behavioral changes in staff. As a future nurse leader, I expect to utilize Orem's SCDNT to encourage staff to perform self-care to prevent burn-out and to inspire positive change in the workplace. A Portuguese study aimed at the assessment of adult and elderly person's capability to exercise self-care concluded that utilization of self-care is a pivotal point for everyday living and can support autonomy, work-life balance, and enhance decision making skills (Cunha, 2024). I plan to promote self-care by sending self-care reminders and observing for burn-out and intervening when possible.
