It is late 2020 and COVID-19 cases are peaking in rural areas in the US. Salmonville General Hospital is a hospital in rural Virginia where the number of COVID-19 patients being admitted is rising rapidly. The hospital is moderately sized and has about 150 beds and exactly 21 ventilators that can be used for adult patients. Currently, 11 ventilators are in use to treat patients with severe COVID-19. It is expected that within the next week or two, the number of patients needing ventilation due to severe COVID-19 will exceed the hospital's ventilation capacity. New ventilators will arrive within one or two months, but until then it will be necessary to allocate ventilators using a triage protocol.Your Evaluation and Recommendations.
