Question

The impact of social determinants on patients who are considered members of the LGBTQ community can consequently have negative consequences on the type of healthcare treatment received. Ethical, the healthcare industry must provide treatment for all patients regardless of sexual orientation. As a nurse, my beliefs should not become a factor while caring for patients. Recently, there were a couple of transgender people in our community who delivered babies. Sadly, some nurses refused to provide care for these patients. The disparities of the transgender population define the type of treatment received from nurses. Transgender people are prone to poor healthcare outcomes due to ethical challenges. It has been determined the obstacles transgender people face, such as limited access to healthcare, lack of resources, insurance and money, rejection from family members, and access to mental health resources, prove to have a negative outcome on treatment (Gary and Lotas, 2023). Health literacy can increase positive outcomes and decrease health disparities in this marginalized community ( Holloway et al., 2023). Providing this community with access to fair and nonjudgmental healthcare, insurance access, providing transportation to those who are limited to transportation, and establishing access to mental.
