Question

The research question: Among ICU patients, does utilizing the CAM-ICU (Confusion Assessment Method-ICU) tool affect ICU stays and untreated delirium-related complications? The theoretical framework I think will be applicable to my research is the Quality Health Outcomes Model (QHOM) (1998) which is the relationship between multiple factors that affect care quality. Using this framework, the concepts will be divided into four such as the system, intervention, client, and outcome. System characteristics are the structure and process elements; interventions pertaining to the clinical processes; client characteristics who receive the interventions; and outcomes which are the effect of the clinical processes on patients (Bethel et al., 2022). Applying this model to the proposed research, the system will be the ICU, intervention tool is the CAM-ICU, clients who develop complications of delirium, and outcomes such as longer hospital stays. Utilization of the CAM-ICU in critically ill patients will be examined and assessed if proper usage will have a positive or negative impact on a patient's hospital stay.
