A doctor who is working in a small regional town has noticed a concerning trend in the population she cares for. A local mining company, which had provided most of the employment for the town, was closed down three years ago and there is now a high rate of unemployment. One third of the town's adults (33%) is overweight and a number of men who were employed as miners are reporting symptoms which indicate they have poor mental health. The symptoms include problems with sleeping and anxiety about the future.
